Birdwood golf vacations — Boar's Head Inn

Birdwood's history is compelling. In addition to the aforementioned craftsmen, its land was part of a 1739 “upland wilderness” land patent. Overthe property’s prized farmland became a top producer of Hereford cattle and prize winning show horses.

The University of Virginia acquired the property in 1974 and hired Lindsay Ervin in 1984 to design the championship golf course it is today, and Pete Dye's acclaimed design group completed a full re-bunkering of the course and a renovation of the greens and approach areas in 2005 (in addition to a world-class practice facility for UVA's golf teams).

Pete Dye's team says, "The bunkering work we have done here emulates the Donald Ross old-school, hand-crafted look and harkens back to the early days of golf course design.

Birdwood Golf Course is a proud member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program, continually incorporating best management practices in environmental planning, wildlife and habitat management, chemical reduction, and water quality management.

Among other awards mentioned above, Washington Golf Monthly calls Birdwood one of the Mid-Atlantic’s top “must play” courses.

Stay and Play and Golf Challenge experiences from $229 include one night accommodations, golf, cart, and more
